Professional Experience

·         2002~Present, Southwest Research Institute (SwRI), San Antonio, TX. Focused on diesel emissions controls, including aftertreatment system development, testing and system integration (Sr. Research Engineer, 2002-1005; Principal Engineer, 2005 –).

  • Leading the R&D effort in automotive emissions control aftertreatment systems, including diesel particulate filter (DPF), selective catalytic reduction (SCR), lean NOx trap (LNT), diesel oxidation catalyst (DOC), gasoline three-way catalyst (TWC), selective non-catalytic reduction (SNCR), etc., at Southwest Research Institute (SwRI), with profound experience.  SwRI is widely considered as the world leader in automotive emissions control.
  • Extensive experience in R&D program management, leading multi-function technical teams in handling multi-million dollar R&D activities on contract based project work.
  • Developed novel aftertreatment technologies in DPF, SCR, gasoline particulate filter (GPF), and diesel exhaust exhaust gas (EGR).  Some technologies have been applied to commercial vehicles/engines. 
  • Developed the Universal Synthetic Gas Reactor® (USGR®) system, which has registered trademarks in the US and China.

·         1999~2002, Ford Motor Company, Dearborn, MI.  Focused on gasoline emissions control and alternative fuel vehicles. (Technical Expert at Ford Research Laboratory, Program Manager of Research and Development at Ford Motor Company Asia Pacific Operations – now named Ford Asia Pacific).

  • Program Manager at the Research and Technology Department at Ford Motor Company Asia Pacific Operations, focused on emissions control and alternative fuel vehicles.
  • Developed the TINS, Technical Information Network System, assisting the communications between Ford and the Asia Pacific government organizations.

·         1995~1999, Ohio Coal Research Center at Ohio University, Athens, Ohio.  Focused on HCl and SOx control from stationary sources (Research Assistant).

·         1992~1995, SINOPEC Corporation, Beijing, China.  Focused on gasoline refining and formulation development (Process Engineer).

 

Activities with Government, Professional and Industry Societies

·         Familiar with major automotive emissions regulations in the US, Europe and China.

·         Providing technical support to the government and industry organizations in China, including the Ministry of Environmental Protection (MEP), China Internal Combustion Engine Industry Association (CICEIA), Committee of Vehicle Emissions Control (CVEC), etc.

·         Actively involving in the Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE), the America Institute of Chemical Engineers (AIChE), the America Chemical Society (ACS).  Organized technical sessions in the major conferences, and reviewed numerous technical papers for a lot of automotive emissions control, fuel and lubricant related technical conferences and publications.

·         Established SwARC, the joint laboratory between SwRI and China Automotive Technology and Research Center (CATARC) in China, chairing the technical committee.
