During October 25 to 28, the 2019 International Conference on Mechanical Engineering Education (ICMEE) was held in Shanghai. The conference is a big event in engineering education world. The 900 attendants of the conference included engineering educators, businessmen and government officials of education department from America, Russia, Britain, France, Germany, Japan and other countries and regions. With the theme of "the future of extraordinary engineering education", the attendants discussed about the talent cultivation in mechanical engineering education.

With the guidance of China Association for Science and Technology and Chinese Academy and Engineering, Shanghai Jiao Tong University undertook this conference.

Deputy Mayor of Shanghai Wu Qing, Deputy Dean of Chinese Academy of Engineering Zhong Zhihua, President of Chinese Mechanical Engineering Society Li Peigen, the President of American Society of Mechanical Engineers Thomas Costabile were all invited and made speeches at the conference. The Director of the Department of Higher Education Wu Yan made a special speech; 13 scholars and experts including SJTU President Lin Zhongqin and President of Moscow Aviation Institute Mikhail Pogosyan made reports about the conference's theme.

Exemplified by the engineering education in SJTU, President Lin Zhongqin's report The Thoughts and Practice of Constructing Outstanding Engineering Education System demonstrated the core ideas and key measures of SJTU's outstanding engineering training.

As the undertaker of the conference, SJTU vigorously promotes the comprehensive professional education integrated with general education in terms of engineering talents, in order to cultivate compound talents for economic and social development.

As for students' innovation practice, SJTU, inspired by new technology, takes the Student Innovation Center as a carrier and a platform to integrate industry and education. It aslo introduces the new resources of training for students' innovation practice, and has signed cooperation agreements with Huawei, Intel, IBM, Microsoft, Tencent, Honeywell and other enterprises.

While deepening the cultivation on general platform, SJTU also advances the construction of special platforms to explore multiple ways of talent cultivation.
